* Attempt to damage Sri Lanka World Heritage Site foiled

Jun 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka police yesterday arrested a person who attempted to scribble his name on the world famous Mirror Wall of Sigiriya rock fortress, a World Heritage Site.

The man, a resident of Dematagoda in Colombo hiding from the police has attempted to scribble his name on the Mirror Wall using a clothes pin.

Mirror Wall is a unique ancient carving pad made of a porcelain type of material and it is filled with poems and verses written by the ancient visitors to the rock fortress more than 1500 years ago.

Sigiriya, located in the Central Province, is one of the major tourist attractions of Sri Lanka. It is believed to have been built by King Kashyapa in 5th century AD.
