* Government not interested in resolving ethnic issue, Sri Lanka Marxists say
Sat, Jan 28, 2012, 12:58 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says government was not interested in finding a political solution to the ethnic issue and wanted it to continue to avoid other key issues.

JVP politburo member, K.D. Lalkantha said the government wanted the matter of finding a political solution to the ethnic issue to continue in order to avoid addressing issues faced by the people.

He told ColomboPage that the government used the whole process of finding a solution to the ethnic issue for its survival and the issue is now being used to hoodwink the minority communities and the international community.

"The government is unable to address the issues faced by the people like the cost of living, salary increases, problems in sectors like education, health, transport, etc.," he observed.

According to Lalkantha, the government has now come to the end of capitalizing on the war victory and is now trying to use the promise of finding a political solution to the ethnic issue for its survival.
