Jan 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka has appointed Rohana Abeyratna as the new Post Master General to fill the vacancy left behind by the resignation of his predecessor D.M.K. Dissanayaka, Postal Department sources said.

The new Post Mater General's appointment will be effective from February 01.

Abeyratna is a senior administrator who has served in the Ministry of Economic Development as a senior assistant secretary.

Former Post Master General submitted his resignation yesterday after a lengthy battle with the postal trade unions that agitated demanding his removal.

Dissanayake has said that he would seek another position away from the Ministry of Postal Services.
