Jan 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Child Development and Women's Affairs Tissa Karalliyadde says that the laws pertaining to adopting children will be amended.
An eight-member committee has been appointed to analyze the laws pertaining to child adoption by local and foreign individuals.
The Minister says that there are disputes in relation to legal conditions on adoption of children.
Recently, the issue came to light as the Child Protection Authority raided a children's home run by a Catholic charity. The authority's claim that the place was a baby farm was challenged by the Colombo Cardinal Malcom Ranjith Peiris. Later the government took up conciliatory measures to avoid the declared boycott by the Cardinal in the official Christmas ceremonies.
