* Ferry service interconnecting Sri Lanka, India and Maldives considered
Sun, Nov 20, 2011, 09:57 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka shipping sources say that a feasibility study is underway to consider launching a ferry service between Sri Lanka, Maldives and India.

The officials of the three countries had discussed the possibility of launching a ferry service during the SAARC summit that was held in Maldives earlier this month, shipping sources say.

The focus is on feasibility of transporting both goods and passengers through this regular ferry service.

Shipping authorities expect the ferry service will be a boost to tourism as well.

A passenger ferry service already operates between Sri Lanka's Colombo harbor and Tuticorin port in India.
