* Sri Lanka to control prices of pharmaceuticals from next year

Dec 04, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government will implement a price control mechanism in the country to control prices of pharmaceuticals, the Minister of health Maithreepala Sirisena has announced.

Minister Sirisena has said that the decision of the Ministry to introduce pharmaceutical price controls will implemented from next month despite the objection of certain sectors.

According to the Minister, it has been discovered that the same drug is sold at different prices at different places due to the absence of a price control mechanism.

The price controls will prevent such irregularities, the Minister has said.

The government is in the process of finalizing a National Drug Policy that is aimed at providing high quality drugs at reasonable prices and to streamline the drug imports to the country. The final rdraft would be presented to the Parliament in the next month.
