* Sri Lanka's new security act to be named as Act for Safeguarding the Motherland

Sept 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has planned to name the act that is to be brought to replace the emergency regulations and the Prevention of Terrorism Act as an Act for Safeguarding the Motherland.

Political sources say that the new act will cater to the modern needs of national integrity, defense, social security and prevention of terrorism.

The new act is also to be simpler and concentrated to the specific needs. Earlier, the broader acts like Public Security Ordinance and the Prevention of Terrorism Act were used for those requirements.

However, Sri Lanka's opposition political parties charge that the government is attempting to suppress people's rights through new laws.
