* Sri Lanka seeks compensation or public apology from Channel 4 - Justice Minister
Sun, Jun 26, 2011, 12:19 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 26, Colombo: Justice Minister of Sri Lanka Rauf Hakeem has said that the government would seek compensation or a public apology from Britain's Channel 4 television station for tarnishing the country's image by telecasting a documentary on alleged war crimes committed in Sri Lanka.

Hakeem has told the media that Sri Lankan government is gathering information to prove that the video titled "Sri Lanka's Killing Fields" telecast on Channel 4 is a doctored documentary intended to tarnish Sri Lanka's image.

The Channel 4 video depicts persons in military fatigues shooting at suspected LTTE cadres and taking photographs of themselves next to naked male and female LTTE cadres who have been killed.

Meanwhile, the government has also requested Channel 4 to hand over the original video telecast by the station on the alleged war crimes committed in the country.
