* Appointments to posts in Sri Lanka main opposition according to party Constitution
Sat, Jul 30, 2011, 07:12 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said any decision with regard to the party's future would be made according to the party constitution that was passed last year.

Attanayake told ColomboPage that the party constitution clearly states the manner in which appointments are made to posts in the party, including the leadership.

He said that party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has been informed of the latest situation in the party and a discussion on the matter is scheduled to be held in the first week of August, soon after Wickremasinghe's return to the country from an overseas trip.

"Any organization has a procedure to be followed when making appointments to post and the UNP too has a constitution for that purpose," he said.

However, when asked about the allegation leveled by the pro-reforms group that the party leadership had violated the constitution, Attanayake declined to comment saying the matter was before court.
