* Teachers' union of Sri Lanka protest granting appointments to the acting principals
Fri, Jul 22, 2011, 07:37 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 22, Colombo: Chairman of Ceylon Teachers' Union Joseph Stalin Fernando says that legal action will be initiated if the teachers covering the duties of the principals will be given permanent principal appointments.

The Chairman of the teacher union said that the move to grant appointments to the unqualified acting principals is not reasonable when the principals who have passed the recruiting examination have not been given due placements.

The cabinet subcommittee that was appointed to look into the cabinet paper presented by the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena to grant appointments to the acting principals has meanwhile summoned details of 2,500 acting principals.

A spokesman of the Ministry of Education said the Ministry had submitted the details of the acting principals to the cabinet.
