July 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka police sources say the uniform of the police officers will be changed within this year.
The proposal to change the police uniform was mooted by the former Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya who retired last month.
However, the police say there will be no drastic change in the uniforms unlike the last uniform change that took place in 1976 when police got rid of the shorts given for the constables.
Sri Lanka police have planned to change its appearance of a combat force to a civilian service as the armed conflict in the country has ended.
Meanwhile, the new Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon will assume duties in his new post as the IGP on July 04.
