Aug 13, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government is to present a new National Education Policy Bill in parliament shortly to resolve the shortcomings in the education sector, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said.
He has said the new policy would be a permanent one and would ensure that only qualified persons would be appointed to serve in the education sector.
Meanwhile, UNP parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana has pointed out that a zonal education director in the Matara District did not even have GCE O/Level qualifications.
The Minister has however assured an investigation would be held into the matter.
The Education Minister last year said a National Education Policy would be implemented by 2011.
