Aug 12, Colombo: Leaders of political parties represented in Sri Lanka's governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) are to meet today to discuss the local government elections scheduled for October.
UPFA General Secretary and Petroleum Minister Susil Premajayantha told ColomboPage that the party leaders' meeting would focus on the nominations for the local government elections and the slots to be allocated to each party.
Premajayantha said the interviews to select candidates would be held from Monday (15) till Wednesday (17).
He observed that the UPFA would submit its nominations lists for the local government elections around the 18th and 19th this month.
The Elections Department has announced that nominations for the remaining local government bodies would be accepted from August 18th till 25th.
The elections for the remaining 23 local government bodies will be held on October 17.
