Aug 11, Colombo: The Director General of the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka H.D. Ratnayake said that the wildlife reserves in the Northern and Eastern Provinces that were given up for around three decades will be reinstalled soon.

These forest reserves situated in Chundikulam, Kokilai, Delft and Madu areas were defunct for three decades in the past due to the war.

The areas of these reserves will be re-demarcated, conservation will be established and the facilities will be provided to the tourists, the official says.

Director General Ratnayake further said that the elephant census will begin tomorrow in Sri Lanka's forests despite the boycott by the conservationist groups. It is to be carried out for two days beginning tomorrow.
