* Sri Lanka university students withdraw petition filed to prevent academics from resigning
Thu, Aug 4, 2011, 06:17 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 04, Colombo: University students of Sri Lanka have withdrawn a petition filed in court seeking an enjoining order preventing university lecturers from relinquishing their duties.

The petition has been withdrawn after the two parties had reached a settlement on the matter.

The petition was filed by students from the Ruhuna, Sri Jayewardenepura and Wayamba universities to prevent university academics from resigning from their posts following trade union action demanding a salary hike.

The university academics last week withdrew their trade union action following an agreement with the government.
