* Sri Lanka's first female Chief Justice to take oaths on Tuesday

May 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka's first female Chief Justice, Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake is to take oath as the 33rd Chief Justice of Sri Lanka before President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the morning of May 17.

The current Chief Justice Asoka de Silva is to retire on the same day.

Dr. Bandaranayake was appointed as a Supreme Court judge in 1996 when she was serving as an Associate Professor of Law and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo.

She made history then as the first female Supreme Court Judge of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, judiciary sources said that the authorities are to fill two judges posts in the Supreme Court soon.
