* New railbus service from Gal Oya to Trincomalee in Eastern Province of Sri Lanka
Fri, May 13, 2011, 12:30 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Railways will launch a new railbus service from Gal Oya junction to Trincomalee, the capital city of the Eastern Province.

Gal Oya junction is situated in the Colombo - Batticaloa main railway line from where the Trincomalee line starts.

Development of the railway services in the area was hindered due to the terror activities of the Tamil Tiger rebels until their military annihilation in 2009.

Sri Lanka Railways is to use two Leyland buses imported from India and converted to trains using local technology at Sri Lanka Railway workshop in Ratmalana in this railbus service.

Railbuses will pick passengers at bus halts in addition to the main stations along the rail line.
