* Sri Lanka student teacher college closed following student clash

May 08, Veyangoda: Sri Lanka Ministry of Education closed the Siyane College of Education in Veyangoda in the Western Province temporarily due to a clash between the two student groups.

Ministry sources said that the clash took place between the first year and second year students. Twenty six students were admitted in Wathupitiwala Base Hospital yesterday with injuries.

However, hospital sources said that only two students remain in the hospital. The others have been discharged after treatment since their injuries were not serious.

College authorities have started an investigation in to the incident.

Unconfirmed sources say that police has also arrested some students to question regarding the clash.

These students are undergoing a three year teacher training course, at the end of which they will be appointed to government schools as teachers.
