Tue, Mar 22, 2011, 08:40 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka has temporarily closed the embassy in Libyan capital, Tripoli from yesterday, the Ministry of External Affairs announced.

The decision was based on a request of the Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Libya who took the decision collectively with the ambassadors of other countries.

Accordingly, the Sri Lankan Ambassador and the second officer are to return to Sri Lanka soon.

The other officials of the Embassy returned to Sri Lanka within the past couple of weeks. Only the Ambassador and the second officer were operating in Tripoli since then.

Most of the Sri Lankan expatriate workers have returned to Sri Lanka whilst some have decided to stay in the country at their own risk, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
