Sun, Mar 20, 2011, 09:31 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Working Committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow.

New office bearers are to be picked under the new party constitution at this meeting, the UNP says.

Party sources say that the working committee will try to settle the battle for the party leadership amicably.

The present leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe and Hambanthota District parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa are the main contenders for the party leadership under new constitution.

The Working Committee is to determine whether it should go for a secret ballot, if a consensus cannot be reached.

The party reforms have to be implemented before April 12 according to the new party constitution.
