* Strict regulations on taking photos at Sri Lanka's polling centers on election day

Mar 16, Colombo: The Election Commissioner of Sri Lanka has imposed strict regulations regarding taking photographs and videos at polling centers on the day of local government elections.

According to the instructions the Election Commissioner has given to the Senior Polling Officers, only the occasions of the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker, the Opposition Leader and the secretaries of the political parties that contest the election casting their votes can be photographed.

However, the journalists must take photos without obstructing the voters.

The Senior Polling officers may inform the journalists that the photos and videos must be published after the polling is over at 4 pm on March 17. The journalists are required to acknowledge with their signature that they received the instructions.

The Election Commissioner has instructed the polling officials to strictly adhere to this regulation or to face disciplinary action.

The polling will take place from 7am to 4pm on Thursday, March 17.
