Mar 14, Colombo: Sri Lankan government and political parties are in final preparations for the local government polls to be held on Thursday (17).
All the propaganda activities for the elections by the candidates are to be concluded by midnight Monday and the government officials assigned for election duties are to leave to their relevant polling centers tomorrow.
All the parties and independent groups that are contesting for the election are busy holding their final propaganda rallies today. The ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) held sixteen rallies in the Hambanthota district today with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The schools that will be used as polling centers will be closed on 16th and 17th, while the schools that will be used as counting centers will remain closed during this week, the Education Ministry announced.
The election will be held to elect representatives for 235 local government bodies.
