Wed, Mar 9, 2011, 09:46 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 09, Colombo: The defence team of the controversial white flag case today handed the list of defence witnesses to the trial-at-bar at the Colombo High Court courts that is hearing the case.

The 10-member witness list is to include former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, opposition United national party parliamentarians Karu Jayasuriya and Mangala Samaraweera, Democratic National Alliance parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Professor Ashley Halpe.

Fonseka was accused of disclosing state secrets for allegedly telling The Sunday Leader newspaper in an interview that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered the shooting of senior LTTE cadres who tried to surrender to the security forces carrying white flags during the final stages of the war last year.

Prison officials have meanwhile informed court that Fonseka will be provided with hot water facilities if the required equipment is provided to the Welikada Prison.
