* Police action against violators of intellectual rights of Sri Lankan artistes
Mon, Mar 7, 2011, 10:12 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka police today initiated legal action against 20 businessmen in Colombo under intellectual property laws.

These unscrupulous businessmen were apprehended with pirated copies of music CDs of local artistes.

Police seized around 1000 copies of such CDs from their possession.

Sri Lankan entertainment artistes often complain that their intellectual rights are pirated by unscrupulous local businessmen.

The pirated copies of music videos and audios are sold at cheap prices in Sri Lanka's pavement stalls and shops scot-free due to inadequate police action, they point out.
