Feb 26, Colombo: The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) says that three building complexes would be built in the city to house the pavement hawkers who have been evicted from many areas in Colombo.
CMC Chief Administrative Officer, Omar Kamil has told the media that three building complexes will be constructed in Norris Canal Road, Deans Road and Pettah during the first week of March.
These complexes are to house pavement hawkers who were evicted and they will have to pay a rent of Rs. 1,500 per month to the CMC in addition to a deposit.
According to Kamil, more building complexes will be set up in the city for the pavement hawkers to carry out their businesses in a proper streamlined manner.
