* Severe sea erosion along western coast of Sri Lanka

Feb 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Coastal Conservation Department has reported serious sea erosion in certain areas of Western Coast.

The Director of the Coastal Conservation Department Anil Premaratna said that the pattern of erosion was unnatural and significant within the history of 35 years.

The Coastal Conservation Department says that the beaches of Bambalapitiya and Kollupitiya in Colombo city Ratmalana, Wattala, Uswetakeiyawa, Prithipura, Wedikanna in suburbs and the Poruthota beach in Negombo are severely affected by sea erosion.

The Department says that it is placing sand bags as a temporary measure to prevent sea erosion and studying the situation.
