Feb 14, Colombo: Members of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) met with the Elections Commissioner today to discuss issues related to the upcoming local government polls.
Party secretary Tissa Attanayake headed a group of UNP parliamentarians to meet the Elections Commissioner.
Attanayake told the media that the party members met with the Elections Commissioner to discuss matters related to holding a free and fair local government poll.
He charged that while public properties have been misused in the election campaign, incidents of election related violence have also increased.
According to Attanayake, the party would also make a request from the Elections Commissioner to grant permission for party representatives to enter the postal voting centers.
