* Sri Lanka police chief warned on contempt of court

Feb 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka Supreme Court today warned the country's police chief, Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasooriya on contempt of court.

The police chief was warned for ignoring of a Supreme Court ruling pertaining to reinstatement of the interdicted Senior Superintendent of Police J.R. Jayawardhana.

A three-member panel of Supreme Court judges comprising Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, K. Sripavan and Chandra Ekanayaka directed the Inspector General to submit the report on the disciplinary investigation regarding the suspension of SSP Jayawardhana by June 01 this year.

The Supreme Court was considering a petition submitted by J.R. Jayawardhana.
