Jan 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka Census and Statistics Department is fast preparing to conduct the fist ever island wide national census in three decades.
The census which is to be carried out in July 2011 will be the 14th scientific census of the country.
The Department says that the listing of the households will be commenced next month as per preparation for the census.
The Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics Suranjana Vidyarathna says that the listing of the households will be conducted via officials appointed in this purpose.
She also says that the mapping for the census has already been completed.
Training of the census officials has begun at the Divisional Secretariat level and the counting will take place in the third quarter of the year, says the Department.
