Sept 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has decided to officially gazette the standard time.
The government has compelled to take this action since the time shown in various clocks has variations in seconds. This is especially seen in the time announced by various media.
Measurement Units Standards and Services Department is assigned to the implementation of the task.
New time will be gazetted from midnight December 31, 2010 to be used from the dawn of the New Year 2011.
Sri Lanka time is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of GMT/UTC (UTC+5:30) as adjusted by state since April 15, 2006 to match Indian Standard Time.
