Sept 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Justice has planned to introduce the mediatory boards to the entire Northern Province to benefit people by providing opportunity to settle disputes before going to courts.
Deputy Minister of Justice Reginald Cooray says that the mediatory boards will be formed as one per each divisional secretariat area in the Northern Province. There are 16 divisional secretariats in Northern Province.
Reputed and respected persons will be appointed on voluntary basis to the mediatory board to settle the disputes of the people. Police will be instructed to direct minor disputes to mediatory boards prior to taking them to courts.
The mediatory boards have become a permanent structure in Sri Lanka's judiciary system settling thousands of issues every week saving time and resources of the courts and people.
