* Sri Lanka opposition party to take disciplinary action against crossed-over MPs

Sept 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United national Party (UNP) has decided to suspend the membership and hold a disciplinary inquiry against the six parliamentarians who crossed over to the government benches and supported the 18th Amendment in parliament Wednesday.

Senior UNP parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera has told the local media that a disciplinary inquiry will be conducted by the Working Committee before deciding on the future of their membership.

UNP parliamentarians Upeksha Swarnamalee, Earl Gunasekara, Abdul Cader, Nimal Wijesinghe, Lakshman Seneviratne, and Manusha Nanayakkara crossed over to the government today and voted in favor of the 18th Amendment.

The UNP Working Committee on the 1st decided to remove any MP who voted in favor of the constitutional amendments.
