Sept 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka Transport commission Chairman Shashi Welgama says that the commission will not approve the bus fare hike sought by the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association.

The official argued that the bus fare revisions are scheduled in July each year and a fare hike can be considered only in next year.

But the Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association Gemunu Wijeratna said today that the bus owners expected a 2.53% fare increase from October 01 this year due to the difficulties the industry is facing today.

He vowed to go to courts if the Transport Commission would not grant their demand. Transport commission Chairman Shashi Welgama said anyone is free to seek legal protection.
