Sept 06, Colombo: Sources close to Sri Lanka's Socialist Equality Party say that the party activists sent back a flower wreath sent by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to express his condolence for the death of political activist Prof. Piyaseeli Wijegunasinghe.

Socialist Equality Party sources say the President sent a flower wreath through a senior Army official.

Prof. Wijegunasinghe, a leading Marxist literary critic of Sri Lanka, was a professor of Sinhala Faculty at University of Colombo.

She is the wife of the Socialist Equality Party leader Wije Dias. Her remains lay at Jayarathne Funeral Parlour and the funeral takes place on Monday September 6.
