Sept 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama states that the state-owned passenger transport service, Sri Lanka Transport Board, has recorded a daily income of 43 million rupees following the introduction of a new programme to minimize loses.
Addressing a meeting at Mathugama today, the Minister said that the Transport Board has planned to buy 500 new buses under a leasing facility. One hundred condemned buses are also to be repaired.
He further said that plans are underway to import a fleet of 1,000 busses and also said that the Transport Board would be maintained as an independent venture without seeking Treasury funds anymore.
