Sept 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Higher Education says that 10 new international universities will be opened in Sri Lanka in a government's move to liberalize the higher education sector of the country breaking the monopoly of the state universities that fail to give adequate opportunities for the students.

The government expects to save five billion rupees foreign exchange that is lost to the country annually as a result of students leaving to foreign countries for higher education.

The Ministry of Higher Education further expects to bring in 30 billion rupees foreign exchange via these universities.

The Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake said that the international universities will allocate 20 percent of their space for the local students.
