Sept 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Left Liberation Front leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne urged the people to wear black clothes on September 08, the day when the 18th amendment to the constitution is expected to be passed in the parliament.
He made this appeal at a press conference held in Colombo today on the proposed constitutional amendments.
Dr. Karunarathne lost his university lecturer post in 1978 as he hoisted black flags against the 1978 constitution that introduced the Executive President system. He says the 18th amendment to the constitution further strengthens the powers of the executive President.
The Left Liberation Front calls for the abolition of the executive Presidency.
