Sept 02, Divulapitiya: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today paid his last respects to late Minister and Presidential Advisor Lakshman Jayakody at his residence in Divulapitiya, Balagalla.

Jayakody, 80, passed away on Monday (August 30) after a brief illness.

He was a senior member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and an adviser to the current President. He was the Minister of Buddha Sasana and Cultural Affairs in the Sri Lankan Cabinet from 1994-2000 and the Deputy Minister of Defence in the Sirimavo Bandaranaike government during 1970 to 1977.

Leader of the Muslim Congress Party Rauff Hakeem, Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and President's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath also attended.
