Sept 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka Wages Board has increased the minimum salary of the employees in the garment sector by 20%, Sri Lanka government says.
The salary increase came as the industry is under pressure due to the slash of GSP Plus tax concessions from the European Union.
The gazette regarding the salary increase has already been published, Ministry of Labour sources said.
The government says that the salary increase was decided following discussions with all stakeholders.
With the increase of the basic salary of the garment workers, the government expects the allowances also to be increased.
