July 31, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court has ordered a probe into the report from the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) that internal organs of a midwife who died under mysterious circumstances in North have gone missing.

The 27-year-old midwife, Darshika Saravanan was an employee at Velanai Hospital and was found dead in her room in the official quarters on July 11.

A report in local newspaper Daily Mirror said two minor employees of the Jaffna hospital were arrested and remanded in connection with the removal of internal organs from the exhumed body.

The Kayt's Magistrate has ordered the probe following a new post mortem conducted by the Colombo JMO. The midwife's body was exhumed recently for a fresh forensic examination.

Following a petition filed by the midwife's mother, the Kayts magistrate ordered the exhumation of her body on July 28 and called for a fresh report from the JMO on the death to court.
