July 29, Tuticorin: Indian Coast Guard has arrested 15 Sri Lankan fishermen in three boats for fishing illegally in Indian waters, the Indian daily The Hindu reported.
The fishermen have been taken into custody along with their three vessels on charges of illegal fishing in Indian waters.
According to the report Indian Coast Guard Ship 'Veera' of Tuticorin Station had apprehended the three Sri Lankan fishing boats and the crew of 15 fishermen 80 nautical miles off south west coast of Kanyakumari on Wednesday (28).
The report quoting Commandant Udhal Singh of the Tuticorin Coast Guard Station said the three boats seized were "Kumudumali", "Ramani" and "Pombi Kumar".
The Coast Guard had increased its surveillance to thwart any such incident, Singh has added.
Interrogations have revealed that the boats were engaged in fishing when apprehended and no suspicious documents had been found.
