July 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today honored late Sirimavo Bandaranaike at 'Swarnabhimana Awarjana', a function held at the Temple Tress to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her inception as world's first woman Prime Minister.

President Rajapaksa and senior members of the SLFP are seen here garlanding a photograph of the former Prime Minister.

Sirimavo Bandaranaike became Prime Minister in 1960 after her husband, former Prime Minister Solomon Dias Bandaranaike was assassinated in September 1959. Her daughter Chandrika Kumaratunga was Sri Lanka's President before current President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
