July 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka's state owned power monopoly Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says that Rs. 11.9 million fines were levied from the unscrupulous electricity users within the month of July so far.
The offenders included 650 individuals from the Eastern Province, CEB said.
Further 31 users were arrested by Kebithigollewa police in some remote areas in Anuradhapura district. These persons have directly tapped the power supply lines to steal electricity. They were to be produced in court today.
The raids were conducted on 4, 5, 6 of July and 25, 26, 27 of July under a special programme conducted by the Ministry of Power and Energy.
