July 27, Colombo: University lecturers in Sri Lanka are to stage a token strike today (27) demanding a salary hike.
A spokesperson for the Lecturers' Association, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga has told the local media the lecturers have had several discussions with government authorities regarding their demands but have failed to bear any results.
Prof. Amaratunga has said the government had made several promises aimed at preventing a brain drain from the country.
However, they allege that none of these promises have been fulfilled and that the government has not shown any signs of fulfilling the promises it gave them.
Prof. Amaratunga warned that the lecturers would decide on a further course of action if the government fails to pay attention to their demands during today's token strike.
