July 27, Colombo: An ardent supporter of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), who set himself ablaze opposite the party headquarters, Sirikotha, yesterday (26) evening has succumbed to his injuries.

National Hospital officials said the victim, Rienzie Algama, has died of severe burn injuries around midnight.

The UNP activist prior to his immolation attempt had said that he was disgusted with party disunity.

Following the incident, he was first admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital.

The Mirihana police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
