July 26, Colombo: Ceylon Teachers' Union Chairman Joseph Stalin Fernando declined using authoritarian powers by the education authorities of the Eastern Province to increase the results of the students at the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) examination.
The CTU Chairman pointed out that the educational authorities of the Province have forced the teachers to sign an agreement promising to increase the results at the Ordinary Level examination by 25%.
The Union says the education is a psychological process that cannot be guaranteed by measures similar to productivity agreements of the manufacturing factories.
He said that the CTU had directed the teachers to decline the signing of the agreements since it is not necessary as they are already engaged in teaching students and preparing them for major examinations.
