July 26, Colombo: The case on the controversial 'white flag' story of former Army Commander and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentarian General (Retired) Sarath Fonseka is to be taken up before a three-judge High Court bench on Thursday (29).

The state counsel appearing in the case today (26) at the Chief Magistrate's Court in Colombo requested the Magistrate to ensure General Fonseka's presence in court on Thursday when the case is to be taken up before a three-judge bench.

The controversial 'white flag' story involves comments made by General Fonseka during the last Presidential election where he had told a local English weekly that on the orders of Defence Secretary, security forces shot and killed senior LTTE members when they had tried to surrender carrying white flags during the final stages of the war last year.

Sri Lankan government recently claimed that the former Army chief's comment was the reason for the UN Secretary-General's decision to appoint a panel of experts on Sri Lanka to probe war crime charges.
