July 18, Colombo: The officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sri Lanka Police are to question the staff of the Sinhala weekly, Lanka, tomorrow (19).
The CID officials have said they needed to question the staff to continue their investigations that have been launched into the activities of the newspaper.
CID officials visited the newspaper office at Delkanda, Nugegoda on Friday (16), and followed it up with a further visit on Saturday (17).
An editorial member of the newspaper said the CID sleuths had questioned the newspaper's editor Chandana Sirimalwatte for nearly two hours before leaving the building around 9:00 p.m.
During investigations, the officers had requested for private details of the staff, such as permanent addresses, locations of parents' homes, earlier employment, and telephone contact numbers.
The CID officials have said that an investigation was being carried out with regard to a story published in the Sunday Lanka newspaper recently.
The Lanka staff members said the CID had also asked for the true identities of contributors writing under pseudonyms.
