July 17, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Police today arrested the 21-year-old suspect of the Eppawala family massacre case in downtown Colombo.

Police Spokesman Prishantha Jayakody told the media that the suspect, a resident of Mindipura, Eppawala was arrested on the Fort overhead bridge in front of the Fort Railway Station by the Pettah Police.

The police were on the look out for the suspect following the murder of a family of four in Eppawala, a village in North Central Province. The parents and their two children were found hacked to death at their home on July 14.

The bodies of the victims were found in different sections of their home, apparently murdered by stabbing and slashing according to the police.

The suspect in custody is said to be a close relative of the family.
