* Sri Lanka's DNA to take legal action against preventing General Fonseka from attending consultative committees
Sat, Jul 17, 2010, 10:01 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Democratic National Alliance (DNA) is to take legal action against the violation of a court order that permits former Army Commander and DNA parliamentarian retired General Sarath Fonseka from attending parliamentary affairs without any hindrance.

DNA parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake told ColomboPage that the party has made arrangements to take legal action against the prevention of General Fonseka from attending two consultative committee meetings in parliament yesterday (16).

The Colombo Magistrate had granted permission for General Fonseka to attend all affairs related to parliament without any hindrance. However, he was not permitted to attend the consultative committee meetings in parliament, as the Army Commander had not permitted it.

Dissanayake said that not permitting General Fonseka to attend the consultative committee meetings amounted to contempt of court.

He added that the party would also raise a privileges issue in parliament when the House meets for sessions next week.
